197 For iPhone

Terms of Use

Effective October 9, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and 197 for using the app. By creating an account you accept them.

Your account

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Give a real email address, keep your password to yourself, and tell us through Support if you think someone else is using your account. One person, one account: accounts are not to be sold, shared or used to impersonate anyone.

What has no place on 197

197 has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive travelers. Do not post, comment, send a private message, name a place or write a profile with: hate or harassment of any person or group; threats or encouragement of violence or self-harm; sexual or pornographic material, or nudity; anything that exploits or endangers children; graphic violence; illegal goods, services or activity; spam, scams or advertising; someone else's private information; or content you have no right to share. Do not pretend to be someone else, and do not use 197 to stalk, intimidate or deceive other travelers.

Reporting, blocking and what we do

Every story, comment, place, place note, profile and private message can be reported from where you see it, and any traveler can be blocked so that you no longer see each other. We review reports as soon as we can, usually within a day. When three different travelers report the same story, comment, place or note, it is hidden at once until a moderator has looked. Content that breaks these terms is removed, and the account that posted it can be suspended or permanently closed without notice. We may also remove content or restrict an account on our own initiative to keep travelers safe.

Private messages

A private message is between you and the traveler you write to. 197 does not read messages as a matter of course: it reads one only when one of you reports it, or when a first message from someone you don't follow, sent before you answer, holds words that often mean spam. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. The rules in “What has no place on 197” apply in messages as everywhere else: no harassment, threats, sexual content sent unasked, scams, or requests for money or documents. A message from someone you don't follow arrives as a message request, and you can accept it, decline it, or block and report the sender. You choose in Settings who may write to you, and you can mute or block anyone. Deleting a message does not undo a report of it.

Copyright and legal notices

If a photo, text or other work on 197 is yours and was shared without your permission, report it from where you see it and choose “Copyright”, or write to us through the Support page with where to find it, what it is and why it is yours. If something is against the law where you live, report it as “Illegal content”. We review these reports with priority, hide what clearly breaks someone's rights or the law while we decide, and remove it when it does. Do not send a notice you know to be false. We answer requests from authorities that follow the law, and share only what the law requires.

If something of yours is hidden

When moderation hides something you shared, you can still see it, with a note that names the kind of reason (for example harassment or copyright) and never who reported it. If you think it was a mistake, use “Ask for a review” on that note, or write to us through the Support page: a moderator will look again, show it, keep it hidden or remove it, and write back. A new account's first story with a photo or a video may wait for a moderator's first look before others see it; until then, you see it marked as being looked at.

Your content

What you write and the photographs you upload remain yours. By publishing them on 197 you give us permission to store, display and distribute them inside the app to the travelers you chose to share them with, for as long as they stay published. You can remove your content or delete your account at any time. You are responsible for what you publish, and you confirm that you have the right to publish it.

Travel information is guidance

Country guides, entry and visa rules, phrases, prices, maps and places shared by other travelers are starting points, not professional, legal or safety advice. Borders, laws and conditions change. Always confirm entry requirements with the official authority of the country you are traveling to, and use your own judgment on the road. 197 is not responsible for decisions made on the basis of information in the app.

The service

197 is provided free of charge and as it is, without warranties of any kind. We may change, pause or end features, and we cannot promise that the service will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, 197 is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the consumer law of your country.

Ending your account

You can delete your account from Profile > Settings at any time; this removes your account, your records and your uploaded media as the Privacy notice describes. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

Changes and contact

If these terms change in a way that matters, the app will say so before the change applies. Questions and reports that cannot be made in the app reach us through the Support page.
